Hurricane season runs from June through November, and experts say several major storms could form—any one of them potentially impacting Georgia.
Now’s the time to be ready.
Officials are urging residents to create a personal emergency plan before a storm hits. That means putting together an emergency supply kit and knowing your evacuation route ahead of time.
Don’t wait until a hurricane is on the way—plan now so you can act fast when it matters most.
Create a Hurricane Emergency Kit
Before a storm hits, make sure your hurricane emergency kit is ready to go.
Start with the basics—at least one gallon of water per person, per day, for a minimum of three days. Add non-perishable food items, like canned goods and protein bars.
Include a flashlight, extra batteries, a battery-powered radio, and a phone charger. Don’t forget a first aid kit, prescription medications, and personal hygiene items.
Have copies of important documents sealed in a waterproof bag, plus some cash in small bills.
And if you have pets, be sure to pack food, water, and supplies for them too.

Savannah residents and businesses are encouraged to monitor the storm and official City channels for updates, take necessary precautions to protect property, and review emergency plans and kits. When there is a storm, the latest updates from the City, and more information about preparedness, can be found at savannahga.gov/hurricane. Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the City of Savannah’s RAVE Alert system and the CEMA alert system.
