On the first episode of The Osbournes Podcast since Ozzy Osbourne’s death in July, his family revealed that two weeks before his “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert on July 5, the heavy metal legend was secretly hospitalized for an undisclosed illness. Osbourne battled numerous severe health issues in recent years, including pneumonia, sepsis, blood clots, Parkinson’s, and a damaged spine, with his family admitting that they went to great lengths to keep his hospital stay private in order to protect the show. Although the months leading up to his death on July 22 at age 76 were grueling, Osbourne was determined to perform one last time to thank his fans. “The human spirit is stronger than anything, and he was so determined to go do his show,” recalls Ozzy’s widow, Sharon. “He wasn’t going to give up on it.” His son, Jack, said the show ended up being a good goal for Ozzy to focus on, admitting, “He didn’t want to go out not doing it, and it was the best medicine for him.” (Rolling Stone)
